About HD Design Studio

Renauto began his journey at a tender age by understudying with RIBA Architects (Royal Institute of British Architects). During which his talents were noticed and nourished. He then continued to pursue his interest in Architecture at the University of Guyana but quickly decided to nurture his talents at Kennesaw State University in Marietta, Georgia, USA in pursuit of his B. Arch Degree. During his time there, his abilities were quickly recognized and he was recommended and selected for a scholarship by AIA (American Institute ofArchitects) to attend the Design Discovery program at the Harvard Graduate school of Design (GSD). Renauto’s leadership style aims to nurture an environment of “idea free flow” and transparency, leading to the creation of what is internally known as the “creative design studio”. A place where young creatives are drawn to and inspired by, where Architecture ideas, research and development flourishes and transforms into architecture sculptures and design details. The atmosphere in the studio is lighthearted by design since the nature of executing the quality of works produced by our studio requires long hours. Ideas are pitched for projects by members of the design team and are then reviewed by an assembled “internal jury” whose aim is to evaluate and nourish ideas introduced and ultimately usher these ideas into the built environment. This process is often open to members outside of the design team to inject external opinions, especially from the perspective of “potential users of these spaces.” This is a reminder to members of the team that architecture is not only about aesthetics and function but how people experience spaces. Architecture is deeply routed in psychology, for this reason, expressive interest is placed on the spaces we create and how persons interact with these spaces. As an example, if a room is small and warmly lit, with natural materials, it produces an intimate space that is inviting for long hours for introverted people. A space with tall ceilings ,but narrow walls can highlight the grandeur of a room, making the occupants feel small and a part of something larger. These are some of the thoughts embedded on a micro level in projects led by Mr. Ferdinand. He believes that architecture should directly respond to the natural environment, adding to, but never diminishing the qualityof space directly surrounding a building. He reinforces rules of portion and order as he aims to create designs that are sound in aesthetics, culturally expressive and environmentally responsible. As a person he is humble, forward thinking, technologically driven and minimalist, which often gets translated to his design concepts. He often iterates that “less is more”, and a concept should be stripped down to an expression of a narrow idea, allowing the essence of a project to be easily digested by persons experiencing the architecture. While young in age, he is tremendously experienced having executed over 52 designs.
